Field watches may not carry the same obvious utility value as other tool watches, but if you need a timepiece that’s stylish enough to wear every day and tough enough to handle extensive use in the outdoors, it’s highly likely you’ll be in the market for one. As far as field watches go, we’re really liking the new Longines Heritage Military COSD, a reissue of a model originally made for servicemen during World War II.

Originally worn by paratroopers from the British War Office’s Combined Operations Command, the timepiece brings a slice of history few field watches can match, making it an interesting option to add to your horological collection. Being a military issue watch, you can bet it’s built to handle the stresses of the outdoors, making it a suitable choice for wearing on a trip, whether you’re hiking up a mountain, fishing at a river, or hunting at a bear trail.

The Longines Heritage Military COSD pairs the military toughness with rugged good looks, courtesy of a light tan dial with easily-legible Arabic numeral markings, a 24-hour indicator, a railway track minute ring, and blued hands coated with Super-Luminova to ensure visibility under all conditions. A broad arrow marking sits on the upper part of the dial – an old symbol used by Britain at the time to indicate a government-issue item. It features a 40mm steel case with 30 meters of water resistance, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and a khaki NATO strap with a triple safety folding clasp.

Available now, the Longines Heritage Military COSD is priced at $2,225.
